What do I
need?
In the following table, I've attempted to list
what each participant will need. Remember that you will be hiking for 4
days, some of it uphill!! Despite what Ivan may say, there are some
"flat bits"!! Don't take more than you need, but make sure
that you have what you DO need. For most of this trip, there will be no
easy or quick way out. It's important that we be self-sufficient.
By the way, all the huts have dishes, utensils,
pots and stoves. Don't bring any of that sort of stuff along. We
might need a bit of white gas for one hut - two of them run on propane.
- climbing harness
- sturdy boots (the snow will
likely be pretty wet - make sure your boots are waterproof)
- crampons (strap-on recommended -
the kind for glacier travel)
- gaiters (very highly recommended)
- light sleeping bag (the huts are
warm)
- ski pole (optional)
- ice axe of some sort
- locking carabiner (2 preferred)
- a long sling or 5 m cord (6 or 7
mm)
- camera
|
- food for 4 days
- water bottle (1 litre)
- sunscreen (very important)
- sunglasses (also very important)
- hat with brim and some way of
shading your ears and the back of your neck (very important)
- lip stuff (very important)
- windproof and waterproof
clothing, including mitts - full protection for nasty weather
- first aid for blisters, etc
- warm clothing
- light clothing that can shield
your arms and legs from sun and yet isn't too warm
- change of socks
- sandals or slippers for the huts
- personal hygiene stuff (include
some TP)

For your own comfort, please make sure you and
your boots get along well together. You don't want a case of blisters to
spoil your trip.
