Choppers Ice Climbing

NOTE:  There are currently more interested participants than spots available for this trip.  The trip details are being reviewed to either increase the allowable number of participants or perhaps create a 2nd trip to offer more ice climbing opportunities.

People who are interested in attending Choppers but haven't signed up yet are still encouraged to submit an email stating their interest.

An interesting article by Jeff Dmytrowich introducing ice climbing has been posted to our blog.  Read it here.

As well, another article by Kevin Esler about an ice-climbing course three Section members took in Canmore is also on our blog.

Beginners are welcome!  Gear is either rented or loaned.  Hostel accommodations are dorm style, hot tubbing is optional, you should be fit enough to hike about 45 minutes carrying a backpack.  Meals are either on your own or in self-arranged groups.  Excitement and ice-shattering memories are pretty much guaranteed!

Group accommodations will be at the Shunda Creek Hostel for $24.70 per night per person.  All climbing will be in the general area.

Climbing takes place on Feb 18 and Feb 19.  Some people choose to drive back late Sunday and some spend the night and leave in the morning on Monday.  There are a limited number of spots and all participants must be current Alpine Club of Canada, Saskatchewan Section Members.

To request your spot please send an email with the subject "Choppers" to email address "Choppers@accsask.ca" stating your interest.  Please include the following extra info:

1) If you have any ice climbing, rock climbing, or wall climbing experience.
2) You must have a helmet, ATC, and Carabiner.  The club has a limited amount of this gear.  Please indicate if you wish to use the club's gear.
3) You must have ice-climbing crampons and ice climbing boots.  We generally rent these as a group and the fee is passed onto you.  If you wish to rent with the group please say so and indicate your boot size.  If you have your own gear please say so.
4) As a group we will be renting ice-axes and this fee will be shared amongnst the participants who do not have such gear.  If you have your own axes please say so.
5) Please indicate which nights (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) you will be staying with the group at the Hostel or if you will be arranging your own accommodations.
The trip is expected to fill up.  You will receive a confirmation email if you are or are not on the trip.  If it does fill up we will place your name on the waiting list and advise you.

Questions about the trip can be sent via email with "Choppers-Inquiry" in the subject to the same email address.
