An open letter to the ACC Calgary Section and Peter Rowlands:
We happened to notice your "Silver Skillet" award winner for the humour category in the photo contest section on your site ("The Saskatoon Section Goes Rock Climbing" - as submitted by Peter Rowlands). Under close scrutiny, none of us here in the Sask. Section seem to recognize any of our members amongst the subjects of the photo in question. It would seem that the accuracy of the caption chosen for the photo is a little dubious.
Which brings us to our next point - we're hoping that Mr. Rowlands himself could shed some light on this one. None of us seem to be familiar with the "crag" in question; is this one that you frequent, Peter? Frankly (amongst our members), there's not much interest in checking it out - it looks rather chossy to us.
It would also appear that Mr. Rowlands' idea of "rock climbing" differs somewhat from the general consensus out here. We would assure him that our practical lack of 5th class terrain here in Saskatchewan hasn't impaired our ability to identify it - we'd be glad to help Mr. Rowlands out in this respect sometime. What we lack in terrain we make up for in enthusiasm.
Just drop us a line, Peter - there's almost always someone from our section passing through Calgary on our way to scale some wonderful quality rock somewhere West of you. We'd love to have you along with us sometime, we'll show you some nice climbs and we'll gladly short-rope you up the approach if you're finding that it's a bit too treacherous for you.
Of course, this offer also extends to all Calgary Section members. Cheers!
All the best,
ACC Sask. Section.
P.S. - We hate to nit-pick but it's the SASKATCHEWAN Section, by the way. We have members all over the province.
